Priya Shete, MD, MPH
I am an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco where my research has focused on improving access to and quality of tuberculosis (TB) care for vulnerable populations. My research has highlighted the central importance of patient and health system barriers to quality of TB care in high burden settings. My portfolio leverages methods in implementation research, social epidemiology, modelling, and health economics that will allow us to better study and understand these barriers to care as well as to provide tools that will allow national TB programs the ability to design and implement interventions that curb these barriers. My research background is enhanced by my experience working with Global TB Programme of the World Health Organization to support countries such as Brazil, South Africa and Viet Nam in developing research agendas and policy translation tools to integrate social determinants and implementation science into their existing TB control programs. I have also served as a public health advisor for USAID with a focus on health system strengthening. I serve as an attending physician on the Pulmonary Consult Service, in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, and in the Department of Public Health Tuberculosis Clinic at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
